g*****dammit, don’t make me stop this car! all of you break it up and back into your corners for a time out!i have been on this board a very long time so my perspective is a smidge different than yours, and right now i am seeing squish acting totally out of character, aleck being snappish, and bonnee, as usual, jumping in to throw gasoline on the fire…bonnee you promised us a while ago to stop coming here, so do it already unless you can stop being a thrombosed hemorrhoid…squish, dt went to college, and like most college kids, has made new friends and is moving on; it doesn’t have anything to do with you or aleck or the board…god bless him, i hope and believe he has discovered girls (and i know you remember all the arguments about whether sex drives were natural )…aleck, you’ve never been one to back down from a fight, and while you may not start them you certainly will finish them, but let this one drop…you and squish have been great inspirations for thought and entertaining so kindly kiss and make up…love, fx

squishy, long time no see (due to my absence more than yours-i thought about looking you up while in england visiting mr and mrs sadgeezer, but all the clusterlizards had unlisted numbers! )…all seriousness aside, i guess i am one of the people lexxlurker was referring to; friday nights in the u.s. for me was farscape while waiting for lexx…and in the beginning, i liked farscape, for different reasons…but when the lexx hiatuses were on, i would lose track of farscape, and later found that the plot had gotten a bit too harlequin novel in space for me…ah well, for nostalgia’s sake at any rate, i miss the old farscape as well, particularly zhaan, and the idea of parallel development of a plant based sentient life form…whatever, saddy and newkate introduced me to red dwarf while i was in england, and i have to say i really liked it, and saw a lot of the lexx sensibilities in it; a bunch of losers mucking about totally out of their depth in space

sleep disturbances can be a sign of depression, but there’s a lot of other reasons too…you mentioned it happened around graduation, ie stressful period…with me it happens when things are bad financially…i’ll be worrying about a big expense, or big disruption/disaster at work, and bingo, i am waking up at 315am every night for weeks until the problem is solved…and yes for me it is always exactly 315 am

erm, most respectfully beg to differ sweetie…way back when the star wars hoopla was fresh, lucas explained that the idea was meant to be the middle portion of three separate trilogies…in other words, he started telling the story in the middle, and eventually would go back and tell the first part of the story in three films, then the last part in three films… by the time return of the jedi was released, however, he was tired and burned out and no longer wanted to pursue the rest…and don’t i wish i had copies of the original posters for the third film as revenge of the jedi; those would be nice little pieces of history now…on another trivial note (and no, i am not enough of a star wars fan to wage trivia wars with you guys, i just happen to have been fairly sentient when the first three were released ) , francis ford coppola was so taken with the fanaticism surrounding star wars that he was urging lucas to set up a church/cult around the whole idea of ‘the force’…coppola is always one to let his enthusiasms get the better of him

well, the thing that was special about kai was that he was dead, and for an actor, that had to be the most challenging aspect of the character…i think mcmanus took that as far as he could, and kai alive wouldn’t be nearly as interesting for an actor; he’d be just another goodlooking hero…but, it would be fun to have the brunnen g backstory, in which case i would want some quirky unknown for kai…or johnny depp! well, although you have carefully plastered several caveats throughout, the fact that you went to the trouble to post an apology is appreciated …fact is, netiquette is an arcane and wondrous thing, and all of us have tripped over points of it (who knew printing in block letters was such a major offense in some quarters?!)…the thing that makes this whole little show stagger along however is pretty much what makes real life liveable; a willingness to learn and modify one’s behavior to the circumstances…and btw, although saddy does not expressly condone or condemn beatings, except perhaps in the case of pesky ex wives and petty bureaucrats, i think it’s fairly clear that one shouldn’t go out and beat people if one has an inkling that this might not be acceptable behavior

just out of curiousity, has anyone here got a funny story about a fauxpas, internet or otherwise that they have committed? i was helping two male friends move into a brownstone in ny a few years ago, when the lady who owned it asked me whose friend i was…she was a sweet old icelandic lady and i thought she was simply curious as to which of the boys had conned me into carrying large boxes up and down three flights of stairs…i said i was friends with both of the boys (we were college buddies) and thought no more of it…later, one of the boys, also icelandic, had a conversation with her, and turned to me smiling…and said ‘she thinks you’re sleeping with both of us’…

aleck is better at explaining this than i am…pal and ntsc refer to video formats, and yes you can buy recorders that play both…dvd’s are encoded for regions; region 1 being us and canada (i think ), region 2 being europe, and so forth…i have been looking for dvd players for both, but right now what seems to be available are software patches to make the players adaptable to the other regions…these software patches invalidate any warranty you may have on the player though…as far as dvd content; the uncut episodes are the same, it’s the ‘extras’ that are different; interviews, behind the scenes stuff, trivia quizzes, actor bios and so forth…the biggest difference i can tell thus far is that the europeans get their stuff earlier, because america has the whole ‘sell into syndication ‘ thing going, and releasing dvds would kill profits from reruns (theoretically)…aleck, honey, feel free to jump in any time now

well speaking as a guttersnipe, aleck and flamegrape, i am not sure there is any real disagreement between you guys; there were episodes i kind of groaned at in all four seasons, and episodes that blew me away…i think that flame was disgusted by the amount of carping about season 4, but i , for one, really can’t pick a favorite season anymore…right now, reviewing season 2 is just showing me how many things i missed…and i feel that dvds of season 3 and season 4 will hit me the same way…and i am also glad that lexx was never lofty and aspiring to greatness; it’s the raw grubbing around in the muck that drew me to it first place or maybe i am just getting senile and finding more truth and commonality in simpler things these days…whatever, …i am sorry it ended, and the way it ended, but that’s the way i should feel about a show and characters i enjoyed… but i am not sorry that the show didn’t die as slow gibbering and alzheimered death…btw frey, could it be that mm looks natural in a bar with an ashtray because that would appear to be his natural habitat? Let’s try and think of all the examples of main characters, recurring characters, and/or main/recurring actors/actresses kissing!

To start things off, and in preparation for tonight’s chat, Let’s do Brian kissing other actors/actresses:

    Brian kissing Michael:

    4.08: Vlad

You’d think there’d be an example of Brian kissing Patricia, but as far as I can tell, though he comes close on at least three occasions, it never quite happens.

ahem, in the spirit of triviality, i wish to raise the point that michael snogged brian …brian, however, gave a masterful performance of being totally wigged

in general, threads tend to meander around a bit as one person picks up on a stray comment and runs with it,that is what makes the threads interesting, but this one may well have dried up… let’s see where it goes and either restart here or move to pub or angst or wherever…

i am going to take the liberty of answering this nb… yes! this is the ending of lexx that we saw being filmed our first day in halifax that we talked about in the halifax diaries …kai’s death is what ‘michael had lobbied for’, and stan’s moth scenes were why michael was singing ‘yo vay yo’ in the studio for brian’s takes in the moth; so that brian would get in the spirit of the thing and start crying…blackie didn’t see all this being filmed, i had to pick her up at the airport afterwards…and the only reason we were able to keep it a secret was that we had each other to bitch to about it

well, i had time to get used to the ending, but i still had a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye starting about the time kai told xev and stan what was going on and that he was going to take the accelerator into the mother ship-asteroid…but yeah, the episode was excellent, and flew by way too fast, and completely true to the lexx philosophy…knowing all this, i am still mourning the demise of the show…
